My solution was to kill the WUSA process and boot just in case. After a couple hours or more (not sure exactly,) I came back and discovered it downloading! And again. Your directions did not give instructions.

My PC is now downloading 205 updates. I just rebooted and repeated the install and it worked slick. Some of the updates would do similar to Windows Update itself - when I ran the update, I got a window which had a title of "Windows Update Standalone Installer", with I installed several times all the known OSs (except of Win 10) and finally I came to the conclusion, that win 8.1 is the best OS for it.
