A brand on Amazon may have good rating and terrible ratings at NewEgg. For starters, I'd let others know the exact Dell Model you have (XPS 8500, Inspiron 660, etc. You have to start there in order for hot-swap to work. At first I thought it's a faulty enclosure or the eSATA cable it came with, so I returned it and got a new one. Also note that firmware updates may be required for some Dell Models. That may not be so in Win7. And because PCIe 1.1 has about 20% overhead, my effective transfer speed was < 100MB/s, not much better than USB 2.0's 60MB/s.So I'm returning this card and ordering a newer StarTech.com

Windows never seems to detect the drive or attempt to install any drivers (found new hardware). Some SATA controllers also contain hot swap support, but some don't - that was not required in the SATA spec's, but IS required of a true eSATA controller. The eSATA controller now shows up on Device Manager (as a JMicron JMB36X Controller under "Storage Controllers") and performs hotswap properly, automatically recognizing any eSATA disks that are plugged in or
